Maxime Vanasse dit Vertefeuille took Sophie Miron for his third wife on October 26 ,1846 at St Ambroise de Kildare Joliette Quebec.Some of their children immigrated to northern Michigan and took the English name of Greenleaf , the translation of Vertefeuille .
In the 1880 census we find their son Joseph Greenleaf at Portage in Houghton County Michigan .He is there with his wife Mary Doud and his son Joseph A .
In the 1900 census this family is at Osceola Township in Houghton County .Some of this family moved to Piscomming Township in Bay County . There are other French Canadian Greenleaf families but I do not know if there is a connection .
