Gabriel Vanasse dit Precourt first married Angele Gagnon on August 6 ,1812 at Trois Rivieres Quebec .
Their issue ------ Antoine Precourt .
Gabriel married for a second time with Marie Josephte Pellerin on October 2 ,1820 at Trois Rivieres Quebec.
Their issue ------  Gabriel Precourt .

Antoine Precourt married Catherine Marcouillier on October 5 ,1835 at Trois Rivieres Quebec .This  family immigrated to Rhode Island .Eventually Antoine and Catherine returned back to Quebec where they appear in the 1881 census .
Their son Israel Varnum, however , married  Margaret Esso in 1872 at Smithfield Rhode Island .
In 1880 their  census record for Smithfield RI is as follows :
Varnum Israel age 30
             Maggie age 28
             Israel age 6
             Thomas age 4
             William age 2
             Albert age 11mos .
             Julia age 40 sister
             Sarah age 29 sister
Israel and Margaret eventually moved to Cumberland Rhode Island where they appear in the 1900 census using once more the surname of Precourt .

1. Antoine Precourt. Born in 1811. Antoine died  aft Jan 1881, he was 70.

 

On 5 Oct 1835 when Antoine was 24, he married Marie Catherine Marcouiliier, in Trois Rivieres , Quebec. Born in 1816. Marie Catherine died  aft Jan 1881, she was 65.

 

They had the following children:

           i.     Damase.

 

Damase married Hermine Mailloux.

 

          ii.     Eloise Marie Ezoir.

 

On 29 Apr 1879 Eloise Marie Ezoir married Francois Xavier Fortin, in Trois Rivieres , Quebec.

 

         iii.     Melanie.

 

On 12 Nov 1866 Melanie married Joseph Gagnon, in Trois Rivieres , Quebec.

 

          iv.     Pierre. Born in 1838. Pierre died in Rhode Island on 14 Oct 1896, he was 58.

 

           v.     Agnes. Born in 1847.

 

On 16 Oct 1882 when Agnes was 35, she married Ludger Marcouiliier, in Trois Rivieres , Quebec.

 

          vi.     Julie. Born in 1851.

 

         vii.     Clancie. Born in 1854.

 

        viii.     Diana. Born in 1857.

 

          ix.     Marie. Born in 1859.

2. Israel Precourt. Born  abt 1847 in Canada. Israel died in Rhode Island on 21 May 1894, he was 47.

 

On 7 Jul 1872 when Israel was 25, he married Marguerite Henault, in Smithfield Rhode Island. Born in Jul 1853. Marguerite died  aft 1900, she was 46.

 

They had the following children:

           i.     Arthur. Born  abt 1873. Arthur died in Rhode Island on 9 Nov 1881, he was 8.

 

          ii.     Israel. Born on 29 Aug 1873 in Rhode Island. Israel died in Maine.

 

         iii.     Damase. Born  abt 1876. Damase died in Rhode Island on 28 Apr 1882, he was 6.

 

          iv.     Thomas. Born  abt 1876 in Rhode Island.

         vii.     Laura. Born  abt 1883. Laura died in Rhode Island on 5 Jun 1898, she was 15.

On 26 Nov 1918 when William was 40, he married Alice Gurney, in Rhode Island. Born  abt 1885 in Maine. Alice died  aft 1930, she was 45.

4. Chester Precourt. Born in Jan 1887 in Rhode Island.

 

Chester married Rita ?.

 

They had one child:

5. Herbert Precourt. Born in Sep 1890 in Rhode Island.

 

On 16 Sep 1919 when Herbert was 29, he married Elizabeth McHugh, in Rhode Island.

Gabriel Vanasse dit Precourt married Emelie Lanoue  , anglicized to Leonard. Gabriel appears in many records as Gabriel Varnum . This family would live in Vermont  around 1850, in Massachusetts , spend much time in Rhode Island and then end up in Massachusetts .
In 1850 they are at Bakersfield Vermont :

Gabriel would eventually die in 1886 in Worcester MA and took the original surname of his ancestors not Varnum , not Precourt but Vanasse .Emily would die in Westborough Massachusetts in 1909 .

Gabriel married Emelie Lanoue. Born in 1829 in Acadie Quebec. Emelie died in Westboro Massachusetts on 18 Nov 1909, she was 80.

 

They had the following children:

           i.     Julie. Born  abt 1846 in Vermont.

 

On 6 Sep 1869 when Julie was 23, she married Ambroise Morel, in Mapleville RI.

2. Henry Precourt-Varnum. Born in 1848 in VT. Henry died in 1930, he was 82.

 

Henry married Lizzie Jean Barber.

 

They had one child:

           i.     Walter Sewell.

 

Walter Sewell married Olive Pearl Jean.

The family mentionned on this page would be a challenge to any genealogist . First we begin in Quebec to a family that was originally Vanasse , then Precourt  - that immigrated to Vermont and adopted the surname of VARNUM , probably after a Revolutionary War hero of the same name . The Varnum name would accompany them to Rhode Island . It would appear in the family of two half brothers  Antoine and Gabriel . The family would then revert back to Precourt to show its real origin towards the end of the 1800s .
