THE INTERESTING CIRCUMSTANCES OF JEAN BAPTISTE VANASSE DIT PRECOURT .( Jean Baptiste , Francois

It is almost certain that he was the son of Jean Baptiste Vanasse dit Precourt . We are not
too sure about whom his mother is . It seems that he was born after Jean Baptiste dit Precourt's wife Marguerite Benoit
had died . It is quite possible that his mother was someone who was helping him tending to his large family . In any case
he was born around 1760 probably in the Baie du Febvre ,Yamaska .
The marriage contract signed on October 4 ,1787 before Badeau the notary indicates the
Jean Baptiste ( no last name given ) age 27 was marrying Celeste Lefebvre . There is not much more information to be found
in the church record dated October 16 ,1787. No surname is given to him while Celeste Lefebvre is shown as the daughter of
Joseph Labbe Lefebvre and Francoise Proulx . In any case Jean Baptiste is called an enfant naturel which means that he was
illigitimate .
We find , however , that at the baptism of his daughter Marie Francoise Precourt in 1798 ,
her parents are listed as Jean Baptiste dit Precourt and Celeste Lefebvre . And his descendants carry the Precourt name to
this day .
